![]() But he survives, and discovers the will to survive. When Tyrion kills Tywin it shatters him, to the point we can barely recognize his character. ![]() After this he finds the next test-the lion. He literally lost his nose, but also lost his power in the city, he lost his job as hand, and lost all support. Tyrion was first tested by water in the Battle of Blackwater Bay, but he was shattered by this. For me the important part of this prophecy is that Azor Ahai is the one who did the forging, and suffered from the consequences of his actions, and I think that Tyrion has the best claim so far to these labors. Finally, after 100 days he asked his wife to bare her breast and killed her, and this forged Lightbringer. Then he worked for 50 days, and tempered the sword in a Lion’s heart, where it also shattered. To quickly recap, Azor Ahai labored for 30 days before tempering a sword in water, whereupon it shattered. We’ve known from the beginning that Tyrion will cast an extraordinarily long shadow, and in many ways I think he best fulfills process of forging Lightbringer. No doubt he likes the sound of warhorns well enough, and the sight of his banners fluttering in the wind, but in the end it comes down to butcher’s work. “No sword is strong until it’s been tempered,” Lord Tywin declared. (Thanks to /u/Militant_Penguin’s for his wonderful analysis of Robb where I found this quote): This metaphor is even used in the story when discussing Robb. The forging of Lightbringer is, for me, not the story of a sword but the story of the forging of a man. I will argue that Lightbringer is not an actual sword, but is the metaphorical weapon of Azor Ahai. But there is another part of the prophecy, another section which must be fulfilled that I feel people focus on too little- Azor Ahai is directly related with Lightbringer. This is, of course, quite logical considering that this is the tale of how Azor Ahai will be born. When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone. ![]() Most AA theories focus on this first part of the prophecy: What we know about Azor Ahai is frankly quite little, the prophecy is very short and very vague, and this has caused theories to be put out there for Dany, Jon, Jorah, Jaime, Rhaegar amongst others.
